Eight local squads are still alive in Ontario Cup competition after last weekend's quarter-final action. Oakville teams posted a 6-3 record in the latest playoff round, including an impressive 5-1 mark from the club's female teams. The Storm blanked the Hamilton Sparta 3-0 in women's play while the under-18 Angels shut out the London Shooting Stars 2-0. The u l7 Explosion edged Niagara Falls 2-1. the u 16 Phoenix hammered the North Mississauga Panthers 8-0 and the u 13 Demons knocked off the Brampton Brams United Stars 4-1. In men's action. Alvield United beat the Scarborough GS United 32 but CNSC Livno dropped a 2-1 decision to Windsor Rose City. The Energy was eliminated, falling 3-1 to the Niagara Falls Vipers in u l2 boys competition, and the girls u l4 Avalanche was knocked out with a 1-0 loss to the Aurora Stingers. The Ontario Cup semis are slat ed for the weekend of Aug. 23-24. The Storm will face the London United Lightning in Scarborough while the Angels will take on Cambridge United in Markham. Two Oakville u l7 girls teams will play contests in Burlington as the Explosion battles Oshawa and the Cobras clash with Mississauga Dixie. If both teams win their matches, they will meet in the Ontario Cup championship game Sept. 14 in Vaughn. The Oakville Red Devils, a u l6 Tier I boys squad, will also be in Burlington to face either Brampton or Scarborough.
