www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Thursday, October 23, 2014 | 36 continued from p.34 Hutchins said he would "vigorously pursue" having a health care facility on the old hospital site and support the proposed community centre. He said he's concerned with the Province's mandate to build a high-density development at the present site of the GO parking lots. "This is shaping up to be a traffic nightmare, as it's happening right next to the present Cornwall and Trafalgar intersection, which is bad now." Scott McColeman has worked for Ford Motor Company in Oakville for more than 25 years and is involved with the United Way and Children's Aid Society, Joshua Creek Residents' Association and Peel Halton Dufferin Training Board. "With the impact of the hospital moving, Oakville's mid-town core is no doubt an important challenge," he said. Andrew Pask is vice-president of municipal affairs at Sutherland & Associates and is running in Ward 3 to make it an even better place to live. "The big issue is value for taxes and I will fight for a Town property tax freeze in 2015," he said. I will also fight to obtain more community recreation facilities in the ward, appropriately redevelop the hospital lands and institute a Ward 3 Public Advisory Committee (PAC) to assist me with the above and in fixing the downtown business district." Pask serves on the Oakville Chamber of Ward 3 Local/Regional Commerce's government relations committee, and is past vice-chair of the Maple Grove Clearview Community Police Committee. He's held volunteer positions with the GTAA Consultative Committee, the GTAA Noise Management Committee and the Mississauga Board of Trade Policy Committee. "There is no learning curve with me as I have been involved with municipal governance for longer than most of the current council," he said. Pask said if elected he would donate all of his salary for 2015, and 50 per cent for the remainder of the term, to create a Ward 3 Community Fund. Scott Weller is general manager of Glenleven Chrysler and franchise owner of a M&M Meat Shop in Oakville. "I believe our ward needs a strong voice on council," said Weller, a founding member and former vice-president of the Chartwell Maple Grove Association, which, he said, "became instrumental in defeating the proposed Oakville power plant." Among Weller's top concerns are the revitalization of downtown, protection of parks and trails, and maintaining the character of the Ward's neighbourhoods. "I will work diligently to ensure the growth in Ward 3, as well as the entire Oakville area, does not damage the small town and family atmosphere," he said. 32nd Annual The Junior League of Hamilton-Burlington CUSTOMER APPRECIATION EVENT!
