Halton's MPs safe in wake of shooting on Parliament Hill by Tina Depko-Denver Metroland West Media Group INFO AT REDBOX.CA A 41-year-old man died after being shot by police at Oakville's Monte Carlo Inn early Friday morning. The shooting occurred after the man had "an interaction" with Halton Regional Police, con rms the province's Special Investigations Unit (SIU), which investigates police when someone is injured or killed. There were initial reports of a man being shot after police responded to a 5:30 a.m. call at the inn at 374 South Service Rd. E. SIU investigator Alex Kravhenko conrmed three of cers were inside the building when a police rearm was discharged and the man was struck. The nature of the call has not been revealed. The man was taken to Hamilton General Hospital by Halton EMS with gunshot wounds and later pronounced dead. The man's family requested his name and residence not be released. Case on p.3 After Wednesday morning's deadly gun re at the National War Memorial and Parliament Hill in Ottawa, the Members of Parliament (MP) representing Oakville, Burlington and Milton were reported to be safe. The violence started shortly before 10 a.m. when a Canadian soldier standing guard at the memorial was shot by an unknown gunman. Dozens of shots were red shortly after in the Centre Block of nearby Parliament Hill. Early Wednesday afternoon, Ottawa police con rmed the male soldier -- a Hamilton reservist -- and the suspected gunman at Parliament Hill had died. The number and status of other possible gunmen remain unknown. Oakville MP Terence Young emailed his constituency ofce Wednesday morning to say all MPs were safe, but in lockdown. Responding to a text from the Oakville Beaver later in the Halton Regional Police Chief Stephen Tanner addresses the media at police headquarters in Oakville day, Young wrote, "All parliamentarians are safe and secure.
