Incumbent Kathryn Bateman Olmstead was ousted by newcomer Joanna Oliver in the Halton District School Board's (HDSB) Ward 4 race. Also not returning is Don Vrooman in Wards 1 and 2 while incumbent Alice Anne LeMay closed a 34-year career as a trustee on the Halton Catholic District School Board (HCDSB). "I'm disappointed," LeMay told the Oakville Beaver Monday night. "I've been there for 34 years. I've done a lot for the school board. But it is what it is. If that's the will of the people and that's the will of the Lord, then I'm OK with that." Oliver captured 2,989 votes (44.15 per cent), defeating eight-year incumbent Olmstead, who received 2,285 votes (33.75 per cent). "I thank the voters for their outstanding support and my fantastic team for an amazing campaign and all their hard work," Oliver said. "I'm looking forward to representing Ward 4 families with a new, unifying voice." Hopeful for a win, Oliver's campaign signs had yellow balloons tied to them Monday. "Yellow was the colour of my campaign...(and) certainly I heard from a lot of Ward 4 residents that they were looking for change and they were hoping change would come, so certainly that Joanna Oliver (colour choice) had a part in it," she added. Rounding out the Ward 4 race were Rajan Sandhu, who received 1,230 votes (18.17 per cent) and Mobeen Ali with 266 votes (3.93 per cent). Tracey Ehl Harrison bested incumbent Vrooman for the Wards 1 and 2 seat -- Vrooman has been the area's trustee since 2006. "I'm really excited about this opportunity and I really look forward to working with the community to do some great things for our students...(and) hopefully implementing some of the ideas that I heard from some residents during the campaign," said. "I'm looking forward to working as a team with the other trustees." Harrison captured 3,007 votes (46.63 per cent), while Vrooman received 2,836 votes (43.98 per cent). Martin Gegus had 606 votes (9.40 per cent). Ward 3 incumbent Ann Alice Anne LeMay Harvey Hope reclaimed her seat with 2,688 votes (64.79 per cent), beating out Brandon Jones who had 1,461 votes (35.21 per cent). Wards 5 and 6 incumbent Kelly Amos was acclaimed. In the HCDSB race, which has four at-large trustee positions, LeMay was only eight votes shy of reclaiming her seat, capturing 3,674 votes (13.93 per cent) behind newly-elected trustee Helena Karabela, who received 3,682 votes (13.96 per cent). The remaining Oakville trustees elected to the Catholic board included: incumbent Anthony Danko (4,831 votes or 18.32 per cent); Anthony Quinn (4,479 votes or 16.98 per cent) and incumbent Paul Marai (3,691 votes or 13.99 per cent). Candidates G i u s e p p e Peritore, Helen Orsanic and Darnell Vrban received 2,879 votes (10.92 per cent); 1,979 (7.50 Don Vrooman per cent); and 1,161 votes (4.40 per cent), respectively. The Conseil scolaire Viamond ­ French Public School Board had Pierre Girouard elected with 152 votes (74.15 per cent). Candidate Malika Attou lost with 53 votes (25.85 per cent). The Conseil scolaire de district catholique Centre Sud ­ French Catholic School Board saw incumbent Dominique Janssens reelected with 236 votes (77.12 per cent);.
