But it is also a feat on its own. While most of the Appleby College students who hit the streets of Oakville last Thursday morning may never take that next step, all 750 of them can now not only take pride in the completion of a significant accomplishment but also in helping out their community in the process. "It's sort of torture, but we make it fun. We get together and warm up and jump around," said Grade 12 student Cole Currie. "It's a good way to raise money and it brings the whole school community together." Technically, Appleby's annual 20-kilometre walkathon is a little shy of a half marathon (21.1 kilometres). But it's still beyond what most people will tackle in their lifetime. "(The next day) everybody is happy because they've finished it," said Appleby teacher Sarah Morrison, "but there are definitely some sore legs." "It's interesting because we get to see our choir and band members doing something athletic," said music teacher Donna Dupuy. "It's really a challenge for anyone to do this, and they're helping others by doing it." This year's event raised more than $55,000 for four local charities -- the United Way see Fundraiser on p. 18 905-844-2949 " " Our customers will tell you: A1 Cares. Quite honestly when I think about A1, I have the trust that I am dealing with caring professional technicians who are genuinely concerned, for their client and their workmanship. Tinekey
