Loyola qualified for the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations tournament with a 2-0 win over Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic champion St. Thomas More Knights Wednesday in Hamilton. Jade Thompson, a former member of the Ontario provincial team, scored both goals for the Hawks. Thompson and Katie Zonatta tallied for Loyola in Monday's Halton senior final, but the Hawks fell 3-2 to the Nelson Lords at Bronte Athletic Field. Loyola and Nelson were scheduled to face each other again yesterday (Thursday, after press deadlines) in the Golden Horseshoe Athletic Conference championship game. The GHAC contest was strictly for seeding at OFSAA. The conference has two berths at provincials because it is hosting the tournament, Nov. 6-8 in Burlington. "I told all my girls that we come from a league with 26 teams that start playing in the second week of September," said Hawks coach Amanda Treacy, whose team was 6-2-1 during the regular season but upset the Burlington Central Trojans 3-1 in the semifinals. "It's a tremendous feat to be one of the last two still standing." Loyola Hawks player Jade Thompson (left) tries to get past a St. Thomas More Knights opponent Wednesday in Hamilton.
