Oakville firefighters launch annual toy drive The Oakville Professional Firefighters Association (OPFFA) will launch its 22nd annual toy drive Saturday, Nov. 15 at the annual Oakville Santa Claus Parade. "We are proud to continue this holiday tradition and call on all of Oakville to help local families and children in need," said Phil Cartwright, vice-president of the OPFFA. "Oakville firefighters are committed to supporting our community, and we know that Oakville residents and businesses will come together to bring holiday gifts to every child in our town." Firefighters will be collecting presents along the parade route, which begins at Lakeshore Road East and Reynolds Street, continues west along Lakeshore and then turns north at Kerr Street. Parade-goers can give gifts to the firefighters as they pass by. Donations can also be dropped off at any Oakville fire station before Dec. 18. All donations will be distributed directly to local families, institutions and community agencies supporting children. All donations are greatly appreciated, though there is a particular need for gifts for boys and girls between the ages of 11-16. "The annual Oakville Firefighters Toy Drive helps us bring smiles to the faces of young people who would otherwise go without a gift," said Clara Costa, of the Halton Children's Aid Society. "Oakville has so many generous residents. We know they will come through for the young people in our community yet again this year." This year, everyone who donates a gift can be entered in a draw to have a child win a ride to school in a fire truck. To enter the draw, attach a business card or a small piece of paper with your name, email address and phone number when you drop off the donation.
