Two hundred new parking spaces coming to Bronte GO by Michael Gregory Oakville Beaver Staff 15 | Thursday, November 13, 2014 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com Commuters using Oakville's Bronte GO Station will have a few more parking options available to them next spring with the addition of 200 new spaces. Oakville MPP Kevin Flynn announced on Wednesday that construction had already started on expanding the lot to the south of the station. Future improvements to be completed by spring 2016 also include upgrades to platform canopies and shelters, as well as the repaving of the existing south lot. "Our government's focus in this regard is the delivery of transit projects that are going to make the daily commute and quality of life much better for the people of Ontario, and for Oakville," Flynn said. Halton MPP Indira Naidoo-Harris, newly elected Ward 1 Town and Regional land for the parking lot expansion a number of years ago from a neighbouring property. Percy, who is also a Bronte resident, said the new spaces would make taking public transit easier for GO customers. "Improving customer convenience is one of our top priorities as we build a faster and more integrated transit network across the GTHA," he said. The Bronte station is currently among the busiest across the transit system and is accessed by approximately 7,000 commuters each day. see More on p.17 McTavish Travel QUANTUM OF THE SEAS Prepare to be "wowed". Royal Caribbean International's Quantum of the Seas has just been launched and en route to New York. The 167,800 ton, 4,180 passenger `smart ship' is one of the most innovative in the world, boasting automated on-line check-in and the Bionic Bar, the first bar in the world where guests can order their drinks via computer tablets, then watch the automated bartenders mix and deliver their cocktail of choice (presumably, tipping is not required). SeaPlex, the largest indoor active space at sea, includes: a Circus School with trapeze; custom-designed bumper cars; iFLY, the first skydiving experience at sea where guests 3 years and up can float on air within the safe confines of the wind-tunnel simulator; and the SeaPlex roller rink, complete with a DJ in a hovering booth. Other features include Quantum's futuristic venue Two70 with six dancing Roboscreens, each more than seven feet high and controlled by robotic arms. The screens "dance" independently and in sync to the delight of children and parents alike. The H2O Zone kid's aqua park is DreamWorks animation-themed and replete with the first ever wave pool at sea. Quantum offers unprecedented bandwidth and ultrafast wireless capabilities courtesy of a new set of lower-orbit satellites, allowing gamers to compete with other Xbox gamers on other RCI ships, at home or anywhere else in the world, or guests can stream their favourite films and enjoy some wind-down time in their fabulous cabin. A family-favourite is the 40-foot long FlowRider surf simulator (watch Dad on that!). The futuristic North Star Pod transports guests more than 300 feet in the air via a long arm offering breathtaking 360 degree views. Families can spend time with DreamWorks characters for character breakfasts, photo opportunities, meet and greets, character-based shore excursions, live shows as well as films in the 3D theatre. Quantum of the Seas sails out of New York Harbor from her homeport of Bayonne, New Jersey on roundtrip 7- to 12-night itineraries beginning on 23MOV14 and continuing through the winter 2014/15 season and visits the most popular destinations throughout the Caribbean and the Bahamas, including Royal Caribbean's private destinations of Labadee and Coco Cay. In MAY15, following Quantum's Caribbean program, the ship will be deployed to Shanghai, China.
