According to Young Drivers of Canada, more people die in motor vehicle collisions during this season than at any other time of the year. With that in mind, OPP offi cers will be out on patrol to nab those responsible for aggressive driving, tailgating and speeding, as well as drivers who choose to disobey other traffic laws. "As Canadians, we have so much to be proud of," says OPP Superintendent Peter Bums. "Let's be proud of the way we treat each other on our high ways." The OPP -- which will also be keeping a close eye on boat ing activity this sum m er -- plans to enforce seatbelt infrac tions as well as impaired driving laws. Young Drivers of Canada has produced 20 tips for helping drivers avoid collisions, includ ing everything from ensuring vehicles are in safe working con dition and exiting freeways to driving on wet roads and follow ing at a distance. "Most of us tend to be a little more cautious on the roads dur ing the winter months when in fact you have a better chance of being involved in a crash during the summer," says Young Drivers President Peter Christianson. "Statistics from Transport Canada show us that a higher percentage of casualties occur on our roadways in the summer months when more vehicles are on the road."
