Santa Claus will have a new oat to carry him though downtown Oakville for the 66th annual parade. Santa's previous oat, built in 1997, has been replaced by a Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade-inspired oat that will carry him and his team of reindeers through town. The theme of this year's parade is `A Canadian Christmas' giving Oakville residents a chance to think about the meaning of Christmas in our country. The parade will once again try to ensure every child has a gift on Christmas. The Oakville Professional Fire Fighters will be accepting new, unwrapped toys during the parade. Gifts for children aged 12 and older are especially needed. The Kinsmen Club will also be accepting donations of change, canned goods and new, unwrapped toys. Last year, the Kinsmen received a record see Annual on p.10 Oakville YMCA recognizing 30th edition of Peace Week by Herb Garbutt Oakville Beaver Staff Oakville's Luis Juarez is pictured hiking a muddy road en route to an Andean coffee producing community as he continues his exploration of the coffee industry in Peru. "The idea of trying to attain world peace can feel overwhelming simply because it's such a large-scale goal," says Kyle Barber, president and CEO of the YMCA of Oakville. "But if you look at ways to be kind and spread kindness in your own home and community and gradually work up to bigger national and international issues, Kirk Smalley peace becomes manageable and attainable. Our goal is to demonstrate that together we can make a difference in creating a peaceful community."
