Friends of the Library book sale runs through this weekend This fall, you can bulk up your bookshelves with the Friends of the Oakville Public Library Book Sale. The book sale is a great way to find gentlyused books from a large variety of genres at prices that can't be beat -- books cost only $1.50 per pound. For hard bargainers, Sunday is half price day. The dates of the book sale at Central Branch (120 Navy St.) are as follows: · Public sale: today (Thursday) from noon-9 p.m.; Friday (Nov. 21) from 9:30 a.m.-9 p.m.; Saturday (Nov. 22) from 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday (Nov. 23) from 1-4 p.m. (half price). The sale opened Wednesday with a `Members Only' evening. Anyone interested in the benefits of membership, can visit www. friendsofthelibrary.ca. For $10 per year, you can become a member to get the first pick of the great assortment of items at both the fall and spring book sales. All proceeds from membership fees go directly to supporting library programs and services for the community. Past book sales have raised approximately $500,000, which has been used to support library services, such as the Battle of the Books, eReader purchases, teen writing workshops and the Queen Elizabeth Park Cultural and Community Centre Teen Book Depot. This book depot is a great place for teens in the area to take out library books they otherwise may not have had access to, and the latest in young adult literature is lent out on an honour system basis. In addition, it gives teens a community space where they can hang out, do homework or play video games.
