continued from p.4 Prior to having the seizure, the Oakville man had met with his oncologist for some blood work and to discuss continuing chemotherapy. "His blood work was fine... and Bryce was to start up (chemo) again on Monday," said Lyn. "So we had no indication of this." Bryce was taken off life support, but continued to breathe on his own for 18 hours -- a testament to the strength of will Lyn says her son had. "Bryce was never ready to do anything on anyone else's schedule other than his own," she said. "Strong heart. Strong lungs... when this first started, Bryce was a very strong, very healthy young man." Lyn said she only thinks of the "wonderful times" she had with her son. "You just remember all the good times, you don't remember anything else... I had so much time with him. I've been so blessed. I've spent the last two to three months (with him) every day," she noted. "I've had lots and lots of extra Family counts their blessings for the time they had with Bryce his own home with his wife, going out when he could, talking with friends, just doing what he could to keep his head above water." Carla said she is trying to cope after the loss. "That could be just the body trying to keep itself together," she said Monday. "I guess I'm just trying to get through the next few days before falling apart, which I'm sure will happen." Bryce and Carla became engaged in July 2007 and shortly after, bought their first home together. Barely two years later, he was diagnosed with a brain tumour and their wedding was postponed. After his cancer treatments -- including Avastin -- Bryce was well enough to wed the love 13 | Thursday, November 20, 2014 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com of his life and did so on Sept. 6 at St. Matthew Catholic Church. "We were just so blessed and grateful to everybody who had supported us along the way. Family, friends and complete strangers... I don't have words for it," said Carla. "I was floored by the generosity of these people, and had it not been for their generosity, we never could have done it." "I will forever remember how happy I was the day I married my best friend," Carla told the Beaver back in September. The community support that rallied around Bryce to fundraise for the Avastin treatment, and to help make his and Carla's wedding happen in September, has continued since his death. "I've had people at my door since yesterday (Sunday), with food and asking what they could do and help. They've been amazing," said Lyn. "Bryce would tell me, he always thought he didn't have many friends, so I didn't know if he could hear me, but I told him, `Listen here, buddy, if you didn't think you had any friends, look at all the people here now.' There were 11 people in the room at one time. "You can't help but admire somebody who, in the midst of all that he was going through, managed to keep his life as normal as possible.
