Police kick off Toys for Tots 2014 by Lisa Tallyn Metroland Media South | photo by Jayson Mills - special to the Beaver Halton Regional Police kicked off the 15th annual Toys for Tots Holiday campaign at the Canadian Tire store in Georgetown Friday. The annual campaign provides gifts to Halton families and is run by Halton police in partnership with Canadian Tire, Salvation Army, Mandarin Restaurant and Halton Honda. Donation bins are set up at Canadian Tire 40 % stores and police stations throughout Halton. Residents are encouraged to drop off new unwrapped toys, gift cards, cash and Canadian Tire money through Dec. 15. The Salvation Army will distribute the gifts. Despite the fact that Halton is quite affluent, "there are a lot of people who do need our assistance," said Halton Police Chief Stephen Tanner at the kickoff.
