This 28.622 sq. ft. part of the undertaking will see por tions of both floors extended south toward the QEW to include a spacious new' food court and improved retail space set to open in April 2(XM. Phase TTiree. which involves re-development of the old food court site and its surrounding area, is sched uled for completion in autumn 2004. Particularly exciting, says general manager Doug Peters, will be the new glassed-in food court, w'hich will boast 600 seats (up from the current 230) and a view of the QEW under plenty of nat ural light. "This has been a long time coming." said Peters. Ivanhoe Cambridge Executive Vice-President and COO Kim Mclnnes agreed and characterized the expan sion as a "premium invest ment" that will provide noth ing but positive spin-offs. "This re-development project will generate definite economic benefits for the town and will provide a lifestyle shopping experience answering to the communi ty's needs and desires." said Mclnnes. In addition, the chimes of the 20-year old Centre Court Clock were repaired last sum mer. The expansion has also allowed Oakville Place which originally opened in March 1981 - to attract at least eight new retailers, the names o f which will be released at a later date. In the meantime, existing retailers are excited about the future, like Shoppers Drug Mart, which will anchor the Phase Two expansion w ith a K).(XK) sq. ft. store (up from 7.(XX) sq. ft.) The Bank of Montreal will remain on the lower level but will relocate from its present site. The flooring portion of Phase Two, slated for com pletion in January 2004. will see a common colour scheme continued throughout the mall. Centre Court will like wise be re-done completely. Phase Three, set to begin January 2004. will complete the project and will be under taken once the existing food court has moved upstairs and the rest of Phase Two has been accomplished. The old food court area will be re merchandised and new retail concepts introduced. The adjacent former IGA location will also be divided for even more diverse retail space. The mall's oak leaf motif will be expanded throughout the site while the popular oak leaf sculpture on the lower level will be moved outside to complement the expansion's new facade. Other touches such as new washrooms and soft chair seating throughout will finish off the project. At that point, Oakville Place w ill be approximately 450,000 sq. ft.
