Sudden power loss to a refinery creates significant challenges. O u r employees were able to quickly and safely shut the facility down. We are proud o f the pro fessional and capable m anner in which our employees conducted themselves. Bringing down a refinery suddenly requires the use o f an elevated flare, w hich you likely noticed. T his is a norm al and safe part o f the emergency shutdow n process. However the visual effects from the flare can be quite noticeable. W e w orked diligently at m inim izing the im pact to the com m unity and w ithin a few hours o f the power outage, the smoke from the flare was reduced. W e thank those w ho called the Environm ental Line at the tim e o f this power outage. O u r call centre was w ithout power for 24 hours and it was difficult to receive and call back those w ho requested calls in a timely manner.
