The event, which begins at 1:30 p.m ., features Appleby College defending its 2002 title as the fastest tub in town, and White Oaks Secondary School defending its Spirit Award. Security guard faces fraud charges A 23-year old Stoney Creek security officer is facing fraud charges in con nection with thefts from an Oakville department store. According to Halton Regional Police, the accused was employed by Sears Canada as a Resource Investigators at Oakville Place since Nov. 2001. From April 3 to Aug. 30 o f this year, while employed at the store in a super visory position, the accused allegedly accessed several cash registers and processed return transactions using dif ferent employee numbers. The transactions would then credit his personal credit cards. There were eight fraudulent transactions totaling just over $35,000. Sears Canada conducted an internal investigation then contacted police. The suspect was arrested on Monday. Darin William Spencer-Penfold of Meteor Boulevard in Stoney Creek has been charged with two counts of fraud over $5,000 and one count o f fraud under $5,000. He is scheduled to appear in Burlington Court on Oct. 14.
