The Oakville Beaver, F rida y S e p te m b e r 19, 2003 - 3 9 Demons' strong season had them in contention for league championship, Ontario and league cups (Continued from page 38) "important game of the year. But it is by no means the only important game of the year. And these girls still had a couple o f impor tant games left to play. "We've had a phenomenal year," said coach Tom Ryan. Indeed, the team not only qualified itself for the Ontario Cup championship game, but the team also qualified itself for its League Cup final and put itself in a position to win its regular season title with a win in its final game -- the latter two both taking place this week. Thus, Ryan had to quickly turn from coach to psychologist. The inflated score was unexpected in that the last time these two teams met -- at the recent Oakville OSCAR tournament -- Oshawa needed overtime penalty kicks to win the scoreless championship game. `Today, they (Oshawa) kind of got a cou ple quick goals, and we had to open up the game," said coach Ryan. "The OSCAR was a much more tactical thing, very few chances. "I think in today's game we probably had as many chances as they did, but they got the two quick goals. "They kind of sit back on that. And w e've got to open up, we can't relax on that, we've got to come out and try to get a goal back. When you do that you leave gaps at the back, and then they got the third one ... "I mean 5-0 sounds like a drubbing but it wasn't. Chances wise we probably had as many o f them, in the first half especially." Players on the team include: Jacklyn Selfe, Jennifer Ormond, Sloane George, Andrea Robillard, Megan French, Victoria M iliucci, Danielle Ganassini, Chynell Richardson, Lisa Ryan, Sarah Lynch, Caitlin Feere, Tia Thomas. Daniela Gysler, Brittany McNamee, Carrie Kalata, Courtney Lambert and Meghan Sowsun. Assistant coach is Paul McNamee, trainer is Fran Lynch and m anager is Mary Robillard.
