Madviolet enjoying Huron Carole tour By Craig MacBride OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF tour is making a stop in Oakville Friday, with Madviolet and many other acts preparing to put us in the holiday spirit, and raise money for the needy while they're at it. tour is in its 17th year of crossing the country through December, turning music into food for food banks. The tour has raised more than $3.25 million and collected thou sands of kilos of food, all for the country's foodbanks. The two women who make up Madviolet are thrilled by the chance to give back to the community. Brenley MacEachern and Lisa Marie Maclsaac share Cape Breton roots, but met in Toronto four years ago. Maclsaac, a Celtic fiddler whose brother is Ashley Maclsaac, joined the band MacEachern was in, and the pair eventually went out on their own, releasing their first album, earlier this year. Like their album, their sets through out the first half of the tour have been well-received, and as they make their way back east from playing shows in Calgary, Victoria, Regina and several other places, the holiday spirit is increasing as the days left to Christmas are crossed off on calendars. It is, among other things, a good way to reach the demographic that makes up the audiences throughout the tour. More used to playing for younger peo p le , the two women are happy by how their folk-pop music seems to be tran scending age barriers. "In the past, there's been a lot of coun try artists," MacEachern said of the tour, "but this year it's a pretty diverse group." Along with Madviolet, four other bands take the stage every night. Lunch at Allen's, with Ian Thomas, Cindy Church, Marc Jordan, and Murray McLiuchlan; Saskatchewan jazz sensa tion Andrea Menard; and Canadian Country Music Association Independent Male Artist of the Year Aaron Pritchett all add layers, and diversity, to the show. Tom Jackson, founder of , will also be playing. Jackson orig inally decided to put together a small show to help food banks. It has now become one of the longest-running tours in Canadian history, and Jackson, known by many Canadians as one of our great musicians, has been made an Officer of the Order of Canada. takes to the stage at the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts, 130 Navy St., Friday at 7:30 p.m. Tickets cost $40 and are available at the Centre's box office, by phone at 905-815-2021, or online at www.oc4pa.com.
