Christina Cravero. who was , crowned M iss Teen O akville 2(X)4 in March, needs to raise S3.524 to attend the 10-day national pageant in Mississauga in August. The | money -- which w ill be used for j accommodations, clothes, shoes and tours around the area, as well as her makeup artist, hairstylist and sash costs -- needs to be raised quickly, and Cravero hopes that sponsorship w ill fill the need. Cravero. an 18-year-old St. Mildred's Lightboum student, has 1huge brown eyes and a charming ' demeanor and a lot o f hope for the national pageant. To win the M iss Teen O akville sash, a feat accomplished by three -separate St. M ildred's Lightboum students over the past three years. Cravero had to send her biogra phy. a photograph, a letter stating w hy she wanted to be M iss Teen Oakville and two references to Miss Teen Canada International. people. Fortunately, Cravero knew that, and she beat out her competition. She was on vacation in the Dom inican Republic when her parents called her with the good news. " 1 was really happy." Cravero said. " It topped off my March break." At the M iss Teen Canada com petition. contestants walk down the runway in ball gowns and swimsuits, and they also showcase their talents. Cravero w ill likely be doing a dramatic monologue, something she has become quite com fortable performing from studying drama in school. This w ill be Cravero's first pageant. "It's all new to me, but (M iss Teen O akville 2003) Kate W alker met life-long friends," she said. " I'm doing it for fun...as an experience." It w ill definitely be good expe rience for Cravero, as she plans to be a television entertainment reporter after university. " I feel like it reflects my per sonality and. I won't lie. I like to meet famous people," Cravero said. " I like things that are fun and 1 love being in the spotlight." She w ill be, in only a couple of months, but getting there isn't the main reason she's happy w ith her self these days. " I usually have friends and fam ily helping me out, but this was my own thing. I kept staying on top of everything. I'v e put so much effort into it. and it's my own personal achievement." 50-plus 'stars' sought for show If you're over 50-yearsold and have a hidden talent you want to show off on stage, now is your chance. Auditions for this year's The Spectacular Variety Show, titled Dare to Dream, are coming up this month, and the people at the Colbome and O akville sen ior centres need your appli cation soon. The show, which takes the stage at the O akville Centre for the Performing Arts on December 27 and 28. is in its sixth year. Last year's Saturday performance sold nearly every spot in the the atre. M ainly through word of mouth, the show has become increasingly popular with every passing year, accord ing to Nancy Beddoe. a staff member with O akville parks and recreation. " It 's a spectacular show." Beddoe said, " and the sen iors in the centre do all the w ork." from directing and producing to co-ordinating the auditions.
