www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Friday, November 28, 2014 | 14 St. Marguerite d'Youville students are no strangers to fundraising continued from p.12 "We were upstairs so we could get a good view. As the music started and the kids came in from all corners, people stopped. At first they didn't really know what was going on, but people were watching it," said Hartman. "We brought some of our people to make sure the kids had a sense of support and were being heard." The students spent two weeks at the school preparing for the flash mob event, Hartman said, noting they choreographed it on their own while keeping up with their academic work and schedule. "Sometimes the kids gave up their lunch, sometimes they did it at the end of the day. They really had to work with the teachers to make time to do it. "They gave up recesses whenever they could because there is academic programming they have to cover," said Hartman. "They were prepared to accommodate the space limitations (in Oakville Place), which they did, and were still be able to create a visual display." HSH's Christmas concert will feature Emilio Fina, a classically-trained, international singer who was a finalist on Canada's Got Talent in 2013. "This is a benefit concert to raise money, bring people out and let people hear some stories about others. We got our school board (HCDSB) to tweet out information about the event and we're talking about it on our board website," said Hartman. St. Marguerite d'Youville is no stranger to fundraising, as its Me to We club held a We Scare Hunger campaign last month for Kerr Street Ministries (KSM). As a result, they collected approximately 2,200 canned goods for the local charitable organization. "With their energy, excitement and generous spirit, they created this massive wave of support from their peers. "It was an amazing success and a wonderful blessing to be able to offer their huge donation to the food bank at Kerr Street Ministries," said Hartman. A Merry Night will be held at The Meeting House, 2700 Bristol Circle, on Saturday, Dec. 6. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets cost $40 per person.
