En masse, they contribute significantly to the outstanding lifestyle that residents have come to expect and appreciate in Halton. As a result, these companies have a vested interest in the ongoing health of the business community and the political decisions that often affect it. It is in this intersection of business interests and political action that the Oakville Chamber of Commerce works to represent its members. Representing more than 1,100 local businesses, the Oakville Chamber advocates on behalf of its member businesses through its non-partisan relationships with municipal, regional, provincial and federal governments. As the pre-eminent voice of the local business community, the chamber can act as a bridge for communications between business and political leaders on a range of issues such as taxes, transportation infrastructure, zoning issues, permits, and by-laws. In its ongoing commitment to represent members' interests, the chamber has recently added Faye Lyons to its team in the role of vice-president, government relations and advocacy. Lyons will continue to strengthen relationships with government officials at the political and staff level while building upon the chamber's reputation as an advocate capable of influencing public policy on behalf of its members. Before joining the chamber, Lyons represented the interests of almost two million members of the Canadian Automobile Association (CAA) in transportation policy with municipal government as well as at the Province of Ontario. Before working at CAA, she served as a political assistant to the Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities and the Solicitor As a long-time Oakville resident myself, I look forward to bridging the needs of the chamber's business membership with our political and government leaders. vice-president, government and advocacy, Oakville Chamber Faye Lyons General and Minister of Correctional Services.
