Instead o f new video gam es o r action figures, though. Benton has tw o small table saws, a m iniature lathe, an electronically-adjustable table, and his w ork-in-progress, the hull o f a ship, the deck mostly built. Benton has been assem bling m odels since he w as a child, but the 48-year-old Oakville resident has been w ork ing seriously on ship m odels since his 30s. T he last ship he built w as the Mayflower , com m issioned by a man w ho w as a descendent the pilgrim s w ho cam e to Plym outh on the actual ship, and the model made the cover o f Ship and Scale m agazine, the trade publication for model ship builders. Benton has also had four articles for the publication and will again have his work on the cover o f the m agazine this month. Despite his expertise, he continues to work full time as vice president o f sales for a furniture company. A fter all, he doesn't consider him self a m aster shipbuilder, as others consider him. H is shipbuilding is done in the mornings, w aking up at 5 a.m. on w eekdays to get in a couple o f hours o f building before work.
