www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Thursday, December 4, 2014 | 30 Brazilian painter De Navarro Cubric opens show Friday at Aroma bar Brazilian painter and Oakville resident Bianca De Navarro Cubric is introducing her works in a show opening Friday (Dec. 5) at the Aroma Espresso Bar. The solo show will feature the local artist's collection of abstract acrylic paintings on canvasses of various sizes, which will be displayed on both floors of the 321 Lakeshore Rd. E. coffee shop until Jan. 5, 2015. A mosaic artist and industrial designer, De Navarro Cubric was born in Rio de Janeiro and moved to Oakville in 2001. Passion for painting While she has degrees in Industrial Design and Visual Communication, De Navarro Cubric says her biggest passion has always been painting. She notes she enjoys painting in numerous styles, but her work is most influenced by the abstract and expressionist movements, "giving a distinctive and unique aesthetic" to her paintings. Brazilian influence Having been raised in Brazil, De Navarro Cubric says the natural, cultural, geographical and spiritual aspects of the Brazilian lifestyle and landscape have had a profound influence on her works -- serving as an inspiration for the subject matter of her artistic compositions, which often incorporate natural elements such as fire, landscapes, water and flora. The local artist concentrates on abstract concepts, utilizing a combination of acrylic paint on canvas, as well as the using plaster as a third medium, in order to give her paintings a "distinctive, three-dimensional characteristic." Her artwork has been featured in many exhibitions and displayed in various galleries around Brazil, as well as Toronto. The next performance is set for tonight (Thursday) at 9 at the Yuk Yuk's Comedy Club in Hamilton, 120 King St. W., unit 540. "We performed at the Hamilton Fringe Festival (earlier this year)... and from that, Yuk Yuk's in Hamilton invited us to bring our show there and make that our home base for performances," said McCabe-Bennett, who co-founded Two Juliets with Meghan Chalmers. The pair met in the theatre performance program and Humber College in 2010 and has been working together since. XOXO: The Relationship Show is a comedycabaret that focuses on dating, relationships and break-ups, Chalmers told the Oakville Beaver in a previous interview last year. "Even though XOXO is a comedy, there's a lot of sadness in it," she said. "There's sadness in relationships. It would be weird if (relationships) Meghan Chalmers, left, and Franny McCabe-Bennett, co-founders of Oakville's Two Juliets theatre company, have expanded their inaugural show XOXO to Hamilton, Toronto and Stratford, Ont.
