The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday February 4, 2004 - D3 Ice again felled by Aeros The Oakville Ice are, no doubt, in the toughest part of their schedule, in the midst of four of six games against the Toronto Aeros. arguably the top team in the National Women's Hockey League. There's absolutely no argument that they're the best team in the central con ference with a 24-1-1 record, including last Saturday's 5-0 win over Oakville Ice who dropped to 13-15-2. The Ice's previous game was a satis fying 7-1 win over Montreal Axion (on Jan. 25), the top team in the eastern con ference. which followed on the heels of a loss to the Toronto Aeros. also by a 5-0 score (on Jan. 23). The Ice get a bit of a break from the high and mighty this Sunday (Feb. 8), 2:50 p.m., at Ice Sports Oakville with basement dwelling Durham T E L U S in town (6-21). They took care of business beating the winless Seneca Sting 76-57 in men's college basketball action Saturday night in North York. The game, postponed from last Tuesday due to bad weather, was never really in doubt for the Bruins, who are again the #1 ranked team in the province (5th in the country). The Bruins used everyone on their roster, including starting center Bashir Musse, back from a four-game absence because of an ankle injury. Sheridan broke open a tight game with an 11-0 run late in the first half to give the Bruins a 35-25 lead at the half. Seneca never really threatened the rest of the way and Sheridan cruised home for the win. Andrew Foster led the way with 15 points and eight rebounds. Kevin Dennis had a superb game as well with 14 points and 11 rebounds, 10 of them offensive. Maurice Smith drilled three treys and finished with 1 1 points. Louis Moore added eight points and five assists. Bashir Musse shook off the rust and scored five points and grabbed nine rebounds. Sheridan pounded Seneca on the boards with 19 offensive rebounds but were a little sloppy with the ball with 17 turnovers. The win moves Sheridan to 7-2 and they remain tied for first place in the central division with Humber, but with the tie-breaker nod. The Bruins, now 40 on their current road trip, complete their five game journey tonight (Wednesday) in Toronto against third place George Brown (6-4). Blades seal third place with pair of wins, playoff opponent determined last night The O akville Blades sealed up third place in their 10-team provincial junior A western conference by clos ing out their regular season schedule with a pair of weekend wins. But they had to wait until the con clusion of the league's final regular season game last night (Tuesday night) between the Streetsville Derbys and M ilton IceHawks to determine if their first round playoff opponent was to be the Streetsville Derbys or the Burlington Cougars. Going into last night's game, it was an Oakville/Burlington match up. But a Streetsville win would have slipped them past Burlington into sixth place to produce an Oakville/Streetsville series. Naturally, playoff dates were not finalized, as of our deadline, with the teams still yet to be determined. But check in on the league website (www.oha.org/jra) for the complete playoff schedule or the Blades web site (oakvilleblades.com). Oakville sealed third place with a pair of decisive wins -- 8-3 over Mississauga Sunday night and 6-2 over Buffalo on Saturday night.
