"But I aim to do it in 12.5 hours." said Solomon, who is taking her 2003 Leadership Pacesetter Challenge to new heights. Solomon. Manager of Leadership and the Tomorrow Fund for the United W ay of Oakville (U W O ). has to date raoed $70,432 in leadership pledges to kick start this year's campaign, *urpassing her original goal of 550,000. Leadership donations consist of gifts of $1,000 or more given annually to I WO. She w ill be accepting pledges of $1,000 or more until Ju ly 25. "The purpose of the challenge is to build excitement for our campaign in September, and have the leaders in our community lead our campaign to anoth er successful year," said Solomon. " And the fact that I get to do some thing I absolutely love while helping those in need in our community at the same time is a bonus." Solomon, a competitive athlete for the past four years, has competed in five marathons and triathlons since 2001, and a half-Ironman - a 200-metre sw im, 90-kilometre bike ride and 21.1 -kilome tre run - last year in Peterborough. " I feel confident about doing a full Ironman this year," said Solomon, who trains rigorously. " I train five days a week. I swim with a group in Mississauga two morn ings a week 1 go for long bike rides, and I fit in runs." Often she combines running with cycling while training. " I also do a bit of weight training and yoga." It started with weight training and working out in the gym about 10 years ago. " Four years ago I was at (the for mer^ Ferrone Fitness and Dan Ferrone (another former C F L star) got on my case about having a goal, so I started running half-maraihons and later full marathons." said Solomon. She ran the Boston Marathon in April 2000. She qualified for this event at the Niagara Marathon, her first marathon. Since then she's competed in Coming. NY. Ottawa and Washington. "W hen I first started doing triathlons. I couldn't even swim ." she admitted. Solomon joined the C3 sw im ming program at the M ississauga Y M C A pool. "This group is very sup portive and all levels of trialhletes train there." In April 2001, Solomon pur chased her bike.
