The Town suggested approving the complex only if the trio of pro posed buildings were built so as to create an internal courtyard to sur round the associated loading docks. However, the proposal is going back to Site Plan Committee Dec. 16 -- unchanged. " It's very disappointing," said Ward 6 Councillor Janice Wright who, along with Ward 6 Councillor Tom Adams is hosting a public information meeting tomorrow night at 7 p.m. in the Trafalgar Room at Town Hall. Wright said she's looking at how 1 to fight the plan on numerous fronts. "Councillors and residents are in agreement that it's inappropriate the way it is," said Wright who will outline her plans tomorrow night -- at a meeting HOOPP said is unnecessary and doesn't plan to attend. In a Nov. 6 letter to the Town, HOOPP consultant James Lethbridge outlined why the plan is unchanged. That letter states that the Town's alternate plan " provides noise abatement for only a limited num ber of residents behind the site; is inferior to the HOOPP plan in terms of function, site organization and compatibility with existing industrial buildings on the site; does not meet market needs or expectations as well as the HOOPP plan; and, will generate less rev enue for HOOPP Realty Inc. The proposal will be before Site Plan Committee on Tuesday, Dec. 16, at 5:30 p.m. at Town Hall. Area residents hope to picket Town Hall at 5 p.m., prior to that meeting. Langevin's home currently backs on to an existing warehouse and shipping facility owned by Stanley Canada Corp. at 1170 Invicta Dr. The Stanley warehouse has 20 loading docks at the back of its property nearest to the homes on Falgarwood. Last fall, residents, battling the problem of late-night truck deliver ies and the accompanying noise and pollution, picketed Stanley, then took their battle into the com munity, picketing stores like Home Depot and Wal-Mart that carry Stanley tools. Langevin had hoped it would pressure Stanley into working with the residents to solve the problems that have been going on over the last year. "The residents are fed up with the constant backing up noises, idling trucks and diesel fumes all hours of the day and night, coming from Stanley," Wright told the Beaver at the time. Despite attempts by resi dents and Town councillors to negotiate change, little was accomplished. Wright billed Stanley man agement as " uncooperative." At a Town Council meet ing last July, a lawyer repre senting Stanley told council lors the company was operat ing within its rights, and the real problem lay in the build ing's design. It's - all led Wright to believe potential problems should be dealt with at the Site Plan Committee stage. " As we've learned from experience, if we don't do something prior to the site being built, we won't be able to do anything," she said. " (The residents) are just fed up. and I don't blame them at all." Now councillors are look ing hard at the design of the HOOPP warehouses. "The residents are not say ing. `No to development'," added Wright. "They are sim ply saying, `Please have con sideration for the fact that you are building in my back yard and place the dock doors as far away as possible from the lot line.'" At the September Site Plan Committee meeting, HOOPP representatives asked for additional time to consider and assess the marketability of Town staff's alternate con figuration.
