" The reason we've done this is the simple fact that we wanted to grow. In today's market, by merging, you can do much more," said Bogdanovski. In turn, Metroland can offer a world of new opportunities to Formula and Silva employees, said Robinson. `To our employees there's more security. They now belong to a large corporation. I see it as an exciting move and I 'm very excited about it," said Bogdanovski. Formula Publications, which has approximate ly 40 employees, is best known for producing annual car and boat guides, as well as monthly Car Guide and Boat Guide magazines, and the trade magazine Boating Business. Robinson said Formula also does contract work like the publication of Canadian Automobile Association (C A A ) trade magazines Leisureways, Going Places and Journey, and Staples' small business magazine S.O.H.O. Formula also prints car show and boat show programs as a " wrap" around its car and boat guides for numerous high profile shows, including the Toronto and Ottawa auto shows and the boat shows in Toronto, Halifax and Vancouver. " This provides an excellent base for re-evaluating existing publications as well as further expansion in the magazine industry," said Oliver. The Silva acquisition should provide the press capabilities to back that expansion. Silva, which has 1 1 full-time employees, spe cializes in high-end sheet fed printing for maga zines, glossy flyers and more. It also has bindery capabilities. Combined with QEWeb, an Oakville newspa per printing press that operates as part of Metroland's Halton Division, Silva will bring to Metroland expanded, high-tech press capabilities. " We already have a good reputation and this will provide an opportunity to show that we can do more," said Bogdanovski. Robinson said the arrival of Metroland on the scene w ill offer his employees more opportunities in a larger organization than they could realize at Formula or Silva. Formula Publications was established in 1969 and moved to Oakville in 1992. Silva was started by Bogdanovski 10 years ago on Wyecroft Road. Originally a pre-press opera tion, it later grew into offering printing services and moved it to Speers Road four years ago. Robinson said Silva not only prints Formula publications, but does print work for clients like Toyota, Raleigh, Hyundai, Just White Shirts, Toshiba. Kenwood. Tabi and Manulife Financial.
