www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Thursday, December 18, 2014 | 16 continued from p.3 know what I can do to help." In 10 days, the GoFundMe page has raised more than $10,000. Cristin, who works nights in palliative care, says just as important have been the people who have reached out in other ways -- offering rides to take the kids to visit their dad, staying with the kids while Cristin is at work and including the kids in their family holiday activities. Walsh is `luckiest unlucky guy there is', says his wife Walsh, 36, is expected to remain at the trauma centre for four to six weeks, followed by a lengthy rehab at home, either in a wheelchair or on crutches. "We're not even sure if he'll be able to go back to (carpentry) as a profession," Cristin said. "We could be looking at starting over, but we'll deal with all that as it comes." It is the second time in the last two years Walsh has been seriously injured. In 2012, he was working at the bottom of an elevator shaft when beams being moved at the top of the shaft fell and landed on him. The beams shattered 15 bones in his face and he needed stitches to hold his eye in place. He missed six months of work while recovering. "He's got nine lives," Cristin said. "He's the luckiest unlucky guy there is. It's crappy that these things have happened to him, but we're just happy he's still alive." Because the latest accident wasn't work related, Cristin is unsure what insurance will provide for the family. She said the money that is being raised will help the family with bills and expenses while Mike is off work. Whatever money is left over, she said, will go toward a new truck, which he will need if he's able to return to work. His pickup, a 2002 Ford F-150, was written off and, for insurance purposes, had a value of just $700. Cristin said it has been overwhelming how people have rallied around her family during such a difficult time. "My jaw just dropped from the amount of support we've received from the community," Cristin said. "I'm just so proud to be part of the lacrosse community in Oakville."
