www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Thursday, January 8, 2015 | 12 Baby arrives just in time to bring in a new year by Michael Gregory Oakville Beaver Staff Shweta and Bharat Kumari's newborn son had put his parents on alert, but it didn't lessen the surprise when the family found themselves hurrying towards Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital in the early morning hours of the new year. Baby Singh made his debut as Oakville's first newborn of 2015 shortly after 11 a.m., weighing in at a healthy nine pounds, 14 ounces. "Our first one (child) was overdue by two weeks so we weren't expecting him that quickly," said father Bharat. The newborn's official due date was Jan. 2, but he caused a stir a few days before his New Year's arrival. "She went into early labour a couple of days ago and we kept calling the doctor and they said our situation is to a point that we should keep an eye on everything," Bharat said. It was shortly after 3 a.m. when Baby Singh let his mom know that he couldn't wait another day to meet his parents and three-year-old sister. "She's very excited," Bharat said. "It's her first time seeing a small baby so she is kind of very amazed about seeing everything." Shweta and Bharat chose not to know the sex of the baby, so they'll be deciding on the newborn's official name in the next few days. "We're debating between a couple of names from the families," he said. The parents have chosen Singh in the mean time because it was Bharat's last name when coming to Canada. Shweta's mother flew in from India to be with family for the birth, and is thrilled to meet her new grandson. "We're all excited just to go back home and start things the way we want it," Bharat said. In commemoration of the birth, the newborn received an OTMH 65th Anniversary medallion. The keepsake celebrates the hospital's 65 years serving the community and can also be purchased at the OTMH gift shop and volunteer services for $10. 1/2 PRICE 905.338.6333 146 Lakeshore Rd.W.
