>(VK fl 1)iirtn/> wcS;V-J nu c ii) iHholc ^ cHT - 3 The Oakville Beaver, Friday August 8, 2003 - 7 OMB schedules evening session to receive public input (Continued from page 1) Still, the board is offering an oppor tunity for the dozens of people who had previously registered, as well as mem bers of the public who did not register, to make presentations on the plan. The hearing will resume Aug. 12, at Town Hall, with evidence from Town planners. Public and participant sub missions will be heard in the afternoon, as well as during an evening session to be held from 7-9 p.m. Ryan suggested delaying the hearing until next week to allow registered par ticipants and members of the public a chance to review the settlement deal released Wednesday morning. The minutes o f settlement, which outline the agreement that has allowed the Town to sidestep an OMB hearing scheduled to last three months, are available on the Town's Web site at www.oakville.ca Essentially, the Town negotiated a deal with Oakvillegreen Conservation Association, Clear the Air Coalition and Residents, Association North of Dundas (RAND), that will see those groups drop their appeals in exchange for the Town undertaking a number of environmental initiatives. The developers, who had appealed OPA 198 in an effort to get the OM B's permission to build on their lands, have also agreed to accept the slightly modi fied plan and settle their appeals. After hearing from participants and the public, however, board members could order changes to the Town plan, which outlines how about 7,600 acres of land north of Dundas Street, south of Hwy. 407, east of Ninth Line and west o f Tremaine Road will be developed. The lands are expected to accommo- date 55,000 new residents and provide 35,000 new jobs by 2016. Town lawyer Doug Gates was reluctant to say just how much the agreement had saved the Town in legal costs and fees for expert witnesses, but admit ted it would be in the range of hundreds of thousands o f dol lars. He estimated the combined costs for all the parties would have gone into the millions if a full hearing had been held. www.beachcomberGTA.com 0 >O A K V ILLE TO W N OF O A KV ILLE NOTICE - OFFICIAL PLAN AM ENDM ENT 198 ONTARIO MUNICIPAL BOARD Clear the Air Coalition Inc., Oakvillegreen Conservation Association Inc., Bressa Developments Inc., Green Ginger Developments, Mattamy Development Co. and Trinison Management Corporation have appealed to the Ontario Municipal Board under subsection 17(24) of the Planning Act, R.S.O. 1990, c. P . 13, as amended, from a decision of the Town of Oakville to approve Proposed Amendment No. 198 to the Official Plan for the Town of Oakville to incorporate the lands located north of Dundas Street, south of Highway 407, east of Tremaine Road, and west of Ninth Line into the Town of Oakville's urban area (OMB File Nos. 0020103, 0020084, 0020037, 0020036, 0020035) TAKE NOTICE THAT the Ontario Municipal Board hearing will continue on Tuesday, August 12, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. at Oakville Town Hall (1225 Trafalgar Road). An evening session for members of the public who wish to make a statement will be held on Tuesday, August 12, 2003 between 7:00 and 9:00 p.m. at Oakville Town Hall. * All participants who complied with the Procedural Order and who wish to make a statement should attend the hearing on Tuesday afternoon or, in the alternative, come to the evening public session. A comprehensive settlement has been reached in respect of all appeals of the Town's Official Plan Amendment 198 (OPA 198). OPA 198 extends Oakville's urban envelope to include the lands north of Dundas Street to Highway 407 in conformity with the Region of Halton's Official Plan. The settlement includes Minutes of Settlement between the Town, Clear the Air Coalition Inc. (CTAC) and Oakvillegreen Conservation Association Inc. (OCA) as well as a modification agreed to by the Town and Residents Association North of Dundas (RAND). The settlement has been agreed to by all parties to the hearing in satisfaction of all appeals. The parties include OCA, CTAC, the Region of Halton, Conservation Halton, RAND and other landowners north of Dundas Street. The settlement provides that: 1. All parties accept the approval of OPA 198 by the Ontario Municipal Board with clarifications to the language. 2. Once OPA 198 is approved by the Ontario Municipal Board, the Town will undertake a number of initiatives to enhance current Town programs supporting the protection, preservation and enhancement of the environment. 3. The settlement benefits the residents of Oakville. Copies of the Minutes of Settlement will be available on the Ontario Municipal Board's web site (www.omb.gov.on.ca) and the Town's web site (www.oakville.ca). A shortened version of the settlement is contained in a media release, which will also be available on the Ontario Municipal Board's and the Town's web sites. 1 2 2 5 T R A F A L G A R R O A D · O A K V IL L E , O N T A R IO · L6J 5 A 6 ' " ' (9 0 5 ) 8 4 5 -6 6 0 1 W w w .o a k V ilff.C a . t , ***' ** ENDOF SEASON Enjoy the great outdoors in your own backyard with incredible end-of-season savings.
