As of Dec. 12, $163,000 of its $300,000 goal had been raised. "We want the day to be special for every single child... a new pair of pajamas, a meal on the table and gifts under the tree," said Agnes Unger-Stassen, who has co-ordinated the program since it began in 1998. The Christmas Wonders and Beyond program assists between 300-450 families, who are in need, enjoy the holidays by providing gift cards that allow parents to shop for presents for their children. The program allows parents to shop for their own children and therefore be a hero to their family -- a special gift to both children and the parents. It also provides grocery store gift cards, allowing the family to purchase a Christmas dinner that helps maintain any holiday traditions it may have.
