Harbour inspires art students Oakville kids use the harbour for inspiration for their art: Sunny summer days inspired a paper sculpture of the sun. Boats in the harbour and other children taking sailing lessons, inspired a decoupage boat design on a Chinese lantern; and the flowers of the gardens in the Erchless Estate inspired the decorative pansy plates that were cre ated in last week's KidzCraftsWeek with Oakville Artist and instructor Dawn Angela Seeley. Children from age 6 to 10 are taught particle perspective as they sketch the lighthouse at the end of the pier. They are taken for walks to learn first hand "how things get smaller as you get farther away," said seven-year-old Connor Ladly Freideen. Asked which craft he enjoyed the most, Connor replied, "every day". Another lesson, in painting shows them how to mix colours from the three primary colours, work ing in acrylic paint, and each child painted their own view of the Oakville Harbour Lighthouse. "I learned `perseverance' mixing the right colour for my pier," said Connor, and then cre atively called the colour "perseverance". As well as the KidzCraftsWeek, Seeley, also holds a SummerArtSkool, teaching students aged 10 to 14 years how to paint, on-location -- no drawing experience necessary. "With the Oakville Harbour, its boats, light house, surrounding gardens and historic buildings in the area, there many beautiful views for students to learn from in our gorgeous little town of Oakville." The SummerArtSkool runs again Aug. 12 and Aug. 26, call or e-mail : 416- 917-2772, dawnseeley@yahoo.co.uk. -THE BEE GEE'S with members of the SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA "If you liked Mamma Mia, you'll bve Abba M ania!"
