D2 - The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday December 1, 2004 Number one ranked Blades keep on winning The Oakville Blades rolled lucky sixes this past weekend. Well, actually when you're the top ranked junior A team in Canada, which they are again this week with their 25-1-0-2 record, you're probably not depending on a lot of luck. Anyway, the Blades kept rolling along in provincial junior A hockey action, defeating Milton IceHawks 6-2 on Sunday, Mississauga Chargers 6-2 on Saturday and Bramalea Blues 60 on Friday. They have another hectic spate of three games in four nights coming up and they'll hope for similar success. They're at home, at Oakville Twin Rinks, for the first two -- Friday night hosting Mississauga and Saturday night host ing the Burlington Cougars, both games kicking off at 7:30 p.m. On Monday, they visit Buffalo Lightning. Disher shines against `Dogs Josh Disher, who rose through the Oakville Rangers rep system and then played a year with the Burlington Cougars provincial junior A team, got a rare chance to play in his own back yard again. And he shone. He was second star, kicking out 38 of 39 shots as his Erie Otters fought to a 1-1 overtime tie with the host Mississauga IceDogs in Ontario Hockey League (OHL) action on Sunday. Rob Hisey, a top-10 scorer in the OHL for Erie was held off the scoresheet in an injury-shortened game. He did regis ter an assist in a 4-1 loss to the visiting Kingston Frontenacs on Saturday. Disher wasn't the only Oakville goalie in the spotlight this past weekend. Also on Sunday, A aron B arton posted his first win in the OHL (to go along with a previous overtime loss) as his Peterborough Petes defeated host Saginaw Sting 5-3. Barton turned aside 25 of 28 shots. Other Oakville highlights were as follows ... Evan M cG rath joined in the scoring parade on Friday night with a goal and two assists as his Kitchener Rangers demolished visiting Saginaw 12-2. Kitchener could have used some of those goals on Saturday when they fell 4-2 to Sarnia. Tyler Donati had a goal and an assist in a 6-3 loss to the visiting Ottawa 67's on Sunday. Donati was held off the scoresheet in two other weekend losses -- 6-1 to host Belleville Bulls on Saturday and 5-2 to host Ottawa on Friday. TOP SCORERS In the OHL scoring race, Evan McGrath is currently 5th with 40 points (15g, 25a) in 23 games and Rob Hisey is 10th with 34 points ( 8g, 26a) in 25 games MINOR OAKS HOCKEY ASSOC. Graham Paine · Oakville Beaver Ryan Ellis of the O akville Blades has a glorious opportunity in S unday's gam e against M ilton. Ice storms national capital Carly Haggard was the National Women's Hockey League (NWHL) player o f the segment, and she is showing no signs o f easing up in this new segment. Haggard scored half of her team 's goals as the Oakville Ice earned a much needed sweep in Ottawa this past weekend, defeating the Ottawa Raiders 3-2 on Sunday and 5-2 on Saturday. Haggard had a single goal in Sunday's 3-2 win. Lindsay Vine was the hero for the Ice scoring the winning goal with just under seven minutes remaining in the third period. Also scoring was Michelle Lorion and she also nabbed an assist. Other helpers went to Tasha Noble and Safiya Muharuma. The Ice outshot the Raiders 39-25 with Katie Germain earning the win in goal. The Ice were never behind in this game and never led by more than one goal. In Saturday's game. Haggard potted a hat-trick with single markers by Kristin King and Therese Brisson, a member o f Canada's 2002 Olympic gold medal team. Assists went to Kathy McCormack, Darlene Stephenson and Tasha Noble. The Ice were actually outshot 33-25 but Tania Pinelli sparkled in net. With the pair o f wins, the Ice avenged last week's 3-2 overtime loss to the visiting Raiders. The pair o f wins were crucial as the Ice have a tough weekend schedule ahead o f them, on the road against the top two teams in the league -- Saturday at Brampton Thunder and Sunday at Toronto Aeros (being played in Goderich). Next home gam e is Sunday, Dec. 12, 1:30 p.m. at Ice Sports O akville against TELUS Lightning. Are you a woman 50 and over? Finding breast cancer early could save your life! Oakville, which had put together their best streak of the season with three wins and a tie in their previous four games, fell to 4-6-3. Their other weekend scores included a 4-2 win over Markham-Stouffville Jr. Stars (5-3-5) on Saturday and a 2-2 tie against the Etobicoke Jr. Dolphins (5-53) on Friday.
