www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Thursday, February 5, 2015 | 8 C.I.A. youth group hosts skating fundraiser Saturday to help other children globally The Oakville-based Children in Action (C.I.A.) non-profit group is hosting its second annual Skate It Up fundraiser Saturday (Feb. 7). Held at Canlan Ice Sports, 2300 Cornwall Rd., there will be skating at rink 1 from 6:30-7:30 p.m., and rink 2 from 7-8 p.m. C.I.A. helps empower youths be a positive force of change and engage the community in a fun active way, say co-founders Vishal and Ishan Vijay. The group was founded in 2012 by the brothers -- along with friends Claire Stewart, and Paige and Tessa Mander -- with the vision of giving every child access to basic necessities of clean drinking water, food and an education. Organizers hope to see more than 600 attend three skate events -- the first in Oakville, followed by events in York (Feb. 21) and Etobicoke (Feb. 28). Guests at Saturday's skate will include Aislinn Paul and Ana Golja of Degrassi and figure skater Elyse Molnar, among others. Last year's Oakville event fundraised to build a clean water well in Sierra Leone, while this year, the goal is to help build two schools in India and Africa through Free the Children. Cost is $5 per person.
