She gives back to the community because it makes her who she is. On Wednesday, the 66-year-old Oakville resident received a high honour for her 37 years of charitable work. Jackson was given the Governor General's Caring Canadian Award, which recognizes those who volunteer their time to help others and their communities. Governor General David Johnston presented the accolade to Jackson and 18 other recipients, including Halton police's Mike Duhacek, at the Hollywood Theatre at Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids). "When I hear a `yes' on the other end of the phone it brightens my day. It might be helpful for others to understand the joy somebody can feel when they do something for others," said Jackson, noting she is "very honoured" to be a recipient of the accolade.
