The contemporary art fair takes place at the Better Living Centre, 195 Princes' Blvd., Exhibition Place in Toronto. Mori holds degrees in art history from Queen's University and applied arts and design from Ryerson University. Her current body of work is painted onto planks of wood where each piece is salvaged from storm-damaged trees before being dried by a kiln. "Each piece creates a unique canvas featuring live edges and exposed woodgrain mapping hundreds of years of natural beauty," stated a news release. "Constructed to pit architectonic organization against organic, it creates the desired tension between opposing forces of nature and man. A dialogue between contemporary geometric order and ancient cellular growth emerges to create a language in constant flux." The Artist Project's opening night party starts tonight and runs from 7-10 p.m., followed by a three-day art fair that offers those who attend the opportunity to meet and buy art directly from more than 250 emerging and mid-career artists. In its eighth year, the show sees more than 15,000 seasoned art collectors, firsttime art buyers, gallery dealers and interior designers attend. Sony Canada, which will also have an exhibition at the show, will be awarding the first-ever Canadian National award to an artist selected from among the top Canadian submissions for the international competition. Artist Project attendees can cast their vote for the `People's Choice' award for best Canadian Image displayed in the Sony gallery at the show. The opening night includes specialty cocktails, complimentary hors d'oeuvres, and art performances. The art fair continues Friday (Feb. 20) and Saturday (Feb. 21) from 11 a.m.-8 p.m., and ends Sunday from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. The show offers art chats and walks; docent-led guided tours that explore trends, themes and insights into artists' inspirations and processes; and a live artist competition painting.
