British cars invade Bronte Creek Park Trafalgar Girl Guides registration tonight More than 1,000 cars are expected to invade Bronte Creek Provincial Park on Sunday as it hosts the 19th annual British Car Day. Between 6,000 and 7,000 spectators are expect ed to visit the park to view these cars. The show will mark the 50th anniversary of the Austin Healey, and 40 years for the Lotus Elan, Spitfire 4, TR-4. and the MGB. The show begins at 10 a.m., and voting ends at 1 p.m. The show will also feature a swap meet and 50 vendors. Proceeds from the show will be donated to charity, said Wayne McGill, a local member of the Toronto Triumph Club. "Last year we donated money to the Sept. 11 Fund of the Canadian Red Cross, and we've previ ously given to Easter Seals." This year's charity hasn't been decided yet, he added. "You can join when you're 5 and still be an active leader when you're 65 - there's something in it for everyone." Guiding is divided into age appropriate pro gramming for Sparks (5-6 year olds), Brownies (78 year olds), Guides (9-12 year olds), Pathfinders (12-15 year olds) and Senior Branch (15-18 year olds). All levels are uniformed and each offers a unique experience. New registrants need no expe rience in other levels of guiding to join. SALT begins new season for handicapped adults SALT - Sharing And Learning Together, a social club for adults with special needs, is cele brating is 21st anniversary. The club meets twice a month, and over the past 20 years, about 60 members and a dozen leaders attended each meeting. "SALT members are offered a joyful, accepting and spiritually rewarding environment where they can share their feelings, participate in prayer and music, join in and socialize with friends," said Pat Neely, a leader. Since its inception, Trinity United Church has supported the club. The church has provided free space, financial support, leadership and spiritual direction. The group meets there twice a month. "Several past ministers and currently Rev. Andy King have developed services of Affirmation and Holy Communion for the SALT Club," said Neely. Support for this club has also come from Community Living Oakville (CLO). CLO has pro vided staff support and make sure many of the members are able to attend meetings. Many stay and participate in the lessons, prayers and singing. Over the years, SALT members are entertained by outside groups. These include the Halton Police Choir, the Son Shines group. Mississauga Gospel Temple, Winston Neale and Sweetness (steel band). "Leaders of SALT have always found that they go home after a busy meeting, filled with joy, uplifted by the experience and very thankful to have served such a wonderful group of people," said Neely. "SALT members go home, anxious for the next meeting where they once again will renew their friendships and experience God's love." SALT begins its 21st year with a meeting on Sept. 16 at Trinity United Church, from 7 - 8 p.m. The club is open to new members, and volun teer leaders are most welcome. Judges will be travelling from as far away as Nova Scotia and British Columbia for an opportu nity to evaluate these magnificent dogs for their brains and beauty. Special events are also planned for puppies, for junior dog handlers, for veteran dogs, and for Dalmatians competing in a special Booster show for that breed.
