"Through this program, we're helping Ontario communities get back on their feet and recover from this significant event," said Ontario Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing Ted McMeekin. Partial funds awarded The following local municipalities and conservation authorities were awarded partial funds to assist with their budgets while claims are being finalized: · Halton Region -- $996,639 · Halton Region Conservation Authority -- $45,226 · Town of Oakville -- $1,922,379 · City of Burlington -- $1,166,883 · Town of Milton -- $650,370 The Province announced in February 2014 local governments and conservation authorities would be fully compensated for all eligible disaster response and recovery costs. Halton MPP Indira Naidoo-Harris called the funding "great news" for the local communities. "I'm pleased the Ontario government is responding to the devastating impact of the 2013 ice storm," she said. Funds will help cover costs "This funding will help cover damage-related costs and support Ontario families who were severely affected by the storm." The Ice Storm Assistance Program was created to assist with the costs related to immediate emergency response and subsequent cleanup efforts. Halton's local governments and conservation authority are among the approximately 55 other institutions across the province of Ontario that will receive interim payments of approximately one-third of their claim.
