C E L E B R A T I N G 1 0 0 Long-time Oakville resident Bob Boycott celebrated his 100th birthday last Friday (Feb. 20) with friends and family at Oakville Harvest Bible Chapel. Residents around Stephens Crescent, Wildwood Drive and Fourth Line are accustomed to seeing Bob on his frequent strolls, relying on his walker for balance. Bob and his family moved to Oakville from Windsor in the early 1960s, as Bob worked for CN/CP Telecommunications. He commuted to work in Toronto then later managed the telegraph office in Hamilton. Bob started his career delivering telegrams by bicycle in Windsor and was a telegraph operator. During the Second World War, Bob served in the Signal Corps with the RCAF, seconded to an RAF base in Gander, where aircraft being ferried to the European theatre refuelled en route. He travelled to Newfoundland on the SS Caribou and later discovered that his was the last trip the ship took. It was torpedoed by a U-Boat on its return to Nova Scotia with the loss of all on board. Bob's children live in Windsor, Acton and Japan. | submitted photo For more news, visit insidehalton.com Halton.ca 311 15 | Thursday, February 26, 2015 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com Business Event for Women Entrepreneurs and Small Business Owners!
