Josh Sanderson made his first big move as general manager of the senior A lacrosse team last Thursday, acquiring two players from the Brampton Excelsiors who haven't competed in Major Series Lacrosse for several seasons. The Rock acquired forward Kevin Ross and defenders Brodie Merrill and Dan Macrae from the Excelsiors in exchange for forwards Mike Mawdsley and Ethan O'Conner, defender Patrick Miles, a 2017 second-round draft pick and future considerations. "The players we had to give up were all younger players who will get a chance to play right away in Brampton," said Sanderson, who was named the Rock's GM last month -- when Dawick was appointed as the club's director of lacrosse operations. "But we need to improve on our six wins last season if we're going to compete with the teams at the top of the league." Merrill helped the Excelsiors win the Mann Cup national championship in 2009 and 2010, but hasn't played in the MSL since. Macrae, an Oakville resident who played his minor and junior lacrosse locally, has spent the past several summers playing for the Victoria Shamrocks of the Western Lacrosse Association.
