- Description
- Robert married Elizabeth Abbott in England in 1851. They had 11 children, the boys came to the Munn's Corners area and Robert with Elizabeth and some of their children emigrated to join them in 1883. Robert had been a farmhand in England and the men of the family continued with that work.
The two photographs in this record commemorate the long marriage and large family of Robert and Elizabeth. The "Star" reporter comments on the rarity of seeing a couple celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary (the Diamond anniversary).
On their 50th anniversary in 1901, they had 64 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren. 10 years later, the report for their Diamond wedding anniversary notes they had 77 grandchildren and 50 great-grandchildren.
After leaving Munn's Corners, they lived in a little house at 35 Pine Avenue, Oakville, for many years.
Information is also included in the collection of newspaper notices here, of Elizabeth's death. - Notes
