Gutsy 3rd period comeback earns draw O akville R angers peewee AAA head coach Dan Stothers must have remembered Yogi Berra's dictum that it a in ' t over `til it's over during his first head coaching stint against the Welland Tigers on Friday at Glen Abbey arena. The. Tigers entered the third period with a 5-2 lead, having never trailed in the game. It didn't seem to matter to the young Rangers who continued to press their attack on the visitors who played most of the final frame in their own end of the ice. With three markers in the third peri od, the Rangers emerged with a much deserved 5-5 tie. Mark Borcsok (1 g, 2a) and Patrick Readshaw (3a) led the point parade. Other goals went to Adam DiMarco, Cam Watts, Steven Guzzo and Andrew Neuwald. A ssists were earned by W atts, Max M ihaichuk and Glenn MacDonald. On Sunday in St Catharines, the Rangers skated away with a 3-2 victo ry in a tough, well-played game over the hometown Sabres. Adam DiMarco, Cam Watts and Patrick Marsh accounted for the scor ing while assists went to Tyler Stothers (2), D iM arco, M att Lorito, Spike Metcalfe and Grant Kozlik. Fall & Winter Sessions Ulozas line continues hot play against Eagles The O akville R angers m inor atom AAA rep team last weekend clawed their way to Sunday play for the sec ond consecutive tournament, this time in Peterborough. Coach Bob Woloschuk's hustling squad posted a 2-1-1 record in prelim inary rounds, before skating to a tough overtime 4-3 loss to Halton in the Sunday semifinal. The Rangers followed up the tour nament with a convincing 5-1, regularseason victory the next day over the Burlington Eagles. The Rangers were led by centre Michael Ulozas, with two goals and two assists. Ulozas's red-hot line was responsible for the Eagles becoming an endangered species, with Giovanni Siciliano and Mark Freitas adding markers. Hard-working Ryan Adams rounded out the scoring with his first goal of the year. The game turned on a brilliant save by Ali Binnington, stoning an Eagle on a goalmouth re-direction with three seconds left in the second period, preserving a 1-0 lead. In combined tournament (4-5-1) and regular-season play (1-1) the Rangers have stayed close, losing three games by a goal (one in OT) and suf fering another loss by a margin o f two, including an empty-net clincher. In 12 games, Binnington and Stefan Chiasson have combined for a glitzy 2.58 goals-against-average. On the scoresheet in the Peterborough tourney were Mark Cece (3G, 1A), M atthew'W ood (2G. 3A), Siciliano (2G, 1A), Patrick Griffin (2G), Patrick Megannety (1G. 3A), Justin Burzycki (1G, 1A), Freitas (1G), Mark Luzar (1G), Matthew Rubinoff (3A), Adams (1 A) and Justin Mattiussi (1A).
