"The rescue program is in its infancy," she related, "so I am hoping that this fundraiser will go a long way towards promoting it and getting it on its feet." Despite a public perception that Yorkshire Terriers are a preferred and pampered lot, affirmed by their `Top 10" status on the canine list in terms of popularity in North America, Serafini said there is still a great need for a rescue system for these dogs. "Yorkies are a long lived and hardy breed, but are prone to a few serious disorders," she said. "We are asked to intervene when expensive surgeries are required, which at times, are beyond the financial means of their owners." Serafini, a devoted owner and breeder of Yorkies, said the rescue system is also needed to find adop tive families for Yorkies, who sud denly find themselves homeless through the death or abandonment of their owners. "Older dogs in particular can be difficult to place," she said, "so this fund can be used to provide transitional housing until a perma nent home can be found." But the marital extravaganza, joyfully uniting Miss B. Dazzled and Mr. Booker T, presided over by "Rev. Don. T. Deevorse", an actor hired for the occasion, seemed less about the downside to a dog's life, and more about the unmitigated pleasures derived from these pets by their owners. Approximately 75 human and more than 50 Yorkshire Terrier guests witnessed the solemn affair and then hoisted glasses of fruit punch or lapped at delicate cups of chicken flavoured broth floating with carrot fragments in a toast to the blissful couple. Later, guests dined on two ver sions of lasagne, depending on one's species, both prepared by Pasqua Serafini, sister of Loreta, who, in an unusual twist was once "mother" of both bride and groom. Loreta, who furnished the entire wedding party from her personally-owned stock of Yorkshire Terriers, had the additional honour of holding the groom during the exchange of vows, and afterward, leading both the bride and the Photos Reverend Don T. Deevorse (S; ding ceremony between Miss Barrie Erskine · Oakville Beaver i Rvdell) presided over the wedDazzled and M r. B ooker T. puppies, or availed themselves of the grooming and boarding facili ties. In lieu of gifts, each guest was asked to make a minimum dona tion of $10 to the Yorkshire Terrier Rescue Fund. Serafini said almost $900 was raised for the cause. Many of the canine guests arrived nattily attired in miniature formal wear. Jeannie Hanna, who escorted her two-year-old Yorkie, Lady Charlotte to the festivities thought the entire event "went off extreme ly well", though in her opinion, "the bridegroom seemed a little reluctant, despite the bride's obvi ous willingness." Frank Scanlon, of Toronto, accompanied by his two tuxedoclad Yorkies, Harley and Fastball, described the day as "a hoot", and pronounced it "one of the most fun things I've been at in a long time." Serafini, was elated by the gen erous and enthusiastic response k from all her guests, concluding simply, "If I can bring people together to revel in these little crea tures, then I have done my job." "I was a little worried about some bad behaviour," she laugh ingly confessed, "but everything went off without a hitch." Even if there had been episodes of inopportune barking or other indecorous outbursts, Serafini was prepared for that as well, noting, "Everyone has a role to play, so if someone wants to voice an opin ion it won't be any different from some human weddings I've attended."
