The Town of Oakville, Halton Region, Halton Regional Police and Halton public and Catholic school boards will be turning out the lights and joining the global event -- and residents are encouraged to do the same. From 8:30-9:30 p.m., all non-essential lighting and electrical equipment that does not compromise public safety or interfere with essential services will be shut off at Town, Regional and police facilities. The municipal agencies are inviting local residents and businesses to follow suit. Earth Hour is a global lights-out initiative created by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF).
