Local trio helps Plattsburgh repeat as NCAA champs Oakville residents Camille Leonard, Mia Favretto and Andrea Ziesmann won their second straight NCAA Division 3 women's hockey title last weekend with the Plattsburgh State Cardinals. Leonard, a goaltender, made 22 saves as the Cardinals defeated the Elmira Soaring Eagles 3-2 in the national championship game Saturday in Plattsburgh, N.Y. The T.A. Blakelock high school grad was also named to the 2015 NCAA all-tournament team. Leonard went 20-2 this season with a 1.22 goals-against average, .909 save percentage and seven shutouts in 21 starts. Favretto and Ziesmann are both defencemen who attended high school at Loyola. Favretto, a senior, scored seven goals and added 10 assists in 30 games this season. Ziesmann scored twice and collected 17 assists in 30 games during her junior campaign. Leonard, Favretto and Ziesmann are all former Oakville Hornets, as is Plattsburgh junior defenceman Caitlin Gilligan, a Burlington resident. Gilligan had two goals and eight assists during her 30-game season. Plattsburgh went 26-2-2 this year on its way to winning its fourth national championship.
