(June 21, 1933 to March 25, 2015. Born Sydney (N.S.) He found his greatest happiness in what he could do for others in various clubs and charities. Stephen, beloved son of Louis and Helen Buckland, survived by his sister Theresa and brothers Vince and Gordon, predeceased by sister Louise, brothers Louis and William. He will be sadly missed by his children Stephen, Terry (Cathy), Paul, Mark, and Adam and predeceased by son Donald (Carolyn) in 2008, a devastating loss to our family. Stephen was a loving grandfather to 22 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Stephen worked at Whitehall Laboratories in Mississauga for 47 years. He was a devoted parishioner at St. Dominic's since 1958. Stephen was a volunteer and president of Minor Oaks Hockey Association, Optimist Club and Canadian International Traffic League. Condolences through www.koprivataylor.com l Obituaries l Obituaries PHILLIPS, Catherine Bridget (Pierse) January 31, 1927 - January 24, 2015 Catherine "Delia" Phillips, 87, a 50-year-plus resident of Oakville, died Saturday, January 24, 2015 after suffering a stroke a few months earlier. Catherine was born January 31, 1927 in County Kerry, Ireland, the daughter of the late John Robert and Annie May Pierse. She was predeceased by her husband Joseph Phillips and brothers and sisters Dominic, Jet, Chrissie and Frances. Delia left Ireland to train and serve as a nurse in post-war Britain, where she met and married Joseph. With their daughter, Gabrielle, they immigrated to Canada in 1957 and settled in Oakville in 1962 where they raised their children to include Elaine and Joseph. After seeing her kids off to college, Delia started her second career as a research librarian at Bay Street-based brokerage houses. Delia equally loved the comradery and excitement of the operating room and trading floor. She had a thirst for learning and a strong work ethic. She loved gardening, vacations with her visiting relatives, following the market and "having a laugh" at various social events. She was Grandma to Caleigh Belden. Friends and family will remember Delia as a generous and feisty spirit who was always up for an adventure. Delia is survived by her brothers and sisters Thomas, Vincent, Ina, Monica and Philomena; by her daughter Gabrielle and son-in-law James Belden of Owen Sound; her daughter Elaine of San Diego and son Joseph of Toronto and her granddaughter Caleigh Belden of Comox. A memorial celebration will be held the last Sunday in May. Loved brother of his twin sister Geraldine Guy (late Ralph) of Prescott, Ontario and Calvin "Bill" Droppo, Cornwall, Ontario. Gerald was predeceased by his parents Andrew and Olive Droppo (Merkley) and by his siblings: Garnet (late Margaret), Evelyn Blackwell (late Brock), Raymond (late Lila) and Dwight (Louise). Special Uncle to his many nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by his many family and friends. Born on a farm in Winchester Township, Ontario on April 30, 1925, Gerald graduated from the Ottawa Normal School (Teachers College) in 1946. He obtained his B.A. from McMaster University in 1956 and his B.Ed. (1959) and M.Ed. (1961) from the University of Toronto. After starting his career teaching in a one-room school house in Eastern Ontario, Gerald came to Oakville in 1951. He became a member of St. John's United Church. He was a teacher at Central Public School from 1951 1958. Between 1958 until his retirement in 1981, he served as Principal at three schools in Oakville (Elmwood, Westwood and Gladys Speers). Visitation will be held on Friday, March 27th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Ward Funeral Home, 109 Reynolds Street, Oakville, Ontario. To celebrate Gerald's life, a Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 28th, 11:00 a.m., at St. John's United Church, 262 Randall Street, Oakville, Ontario. Burial will be held at Maple Ridge Cemetery, Chesterville, Ontario on Monday, March 30th at 1:00 p.m. Memorial donations to St. John's United Church, the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the charity of your choice would be most appreciated.
