7 | Friday, March 27, 2015 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com Letter to the Editor Reader questions media coverage of annual St. Patrick's Day walk tradition Why the change in reporting method after 2012 on the annual St. Patrick's Day walk from Toronto to Oakville? Along with the annual St. Patrick's Day Toronto to Oakville walk tradition, which has been headed by Eddie Williams since the 1970s, local media attention had been included on the same day. Reporters would greet Eddie and the other participants upon their arrival in Oakville, briefly interview them, take their pictures, then acknowledge all the participants by name in the Oakville Beaver. The story would subsequently be released within a few days after the walk. Following 2012, this was suddenly no longer the procedure. Since then, there would be a brief article appearing in the Oakville Beaver mentioning Williams' annual trek shortly prior to March 17, but no reports after the walk or of the other participants. Why did the previous, more inclusive method of reporting this annual event suddenly change after 2012? Although no one has participated in the annual walk for nearly as long as Williams has, anyone else who puts forth the Herculean effort of walking 42 kilometres -- even if it is for only a single year -- is deserving of some recognition as well. It is hardly fair to only highlight one participant, while ignoring all the others. Raychyl Whyte, Hamilton (Former Oakville resident for 34 years. Participant each year in the St. Patrick's Day walk since 2006). CONCRETE ExposEd aggrEgatE (pebble) We want to hear from our readers...
