- Robert Balmer was one of the congregation's most prominent figures in public service. He held all of the important offices of town, was an elder of Knox Presbyterian Church, Oakville, for 45 years, postmaster for over 40 years, town clerk, division court clerk, justice of the peace and had been chairman and member connected with the board of public school trustees.
