The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday November 13, 2002 - D3 It's a busy week in high school play off action. FOOTBALL The football finals are on tap at Ivor Wynne Stadium in Hamilton. The junior finals are on tap today (Wednesday). The tier two final is all-Oakville with first place Holy Trinity, in their first year, making it to the big dance and facing Oakville Trafalgar. Kick off is 10 a.m. Holy Trinity are undefeated this year including a 6-0 regular season record and playoff wins over Aquinas and Blakelock. Holy Trinity went 5-1 in the regular season with playoff wins over White Oaks and Iroquois Ridge. Halton high school post season in full gear this week The tier two final is followed at noon by the tier one junior final, an allBurlington showdown, between Nelson and Assumption. The senior finals are on tap at Ivor Wynne Stadium on Thursday with the tier two finals at 10 a.m., between Q.E. Park and Milton District. Q.E. Park are undefeated this year including a 6-0 regular season record and playoff wins over Bishop Reding and Blakelock. Milton District are a bit of a surprise, having come out of fifth place (3-3) with mild upsets over Oakville Trafalgar (42) and Burlington Central (4-2). The senior tier one final, at noon, pits Notre Dame against M.M. Robinson. BOYS VOLLEYBALL Oakville was represented in both both boys junior and senior Halton volleyball championships which were held late yes terday (Tuesday) afternoon at Sheridan College. The senior game was an all-Oakville affair featuring Volpe division rivals Oakville Trafalgar and Blakelock. Blakelock went into the game unde feated this year, including a 7-0 regular season and a couple of playoff wins. Oakville Trafalgar, however, are the defending Halton champions and their only blemish was their regular season loss to Blakelock, leaving them at 6-1, so it was shaping up to be an exciting game. The winner was slated to move on to them over the top against the second place Milton Merchants. The Blades came out very strong, and were ahead for a good portion of the game, but Milton managed to tie things up near the end of the second the G-HAC championship, also at Sheridan, on Thursday, against the Hamilton Roman Catholic champion, with the winner moving on to the OFSAA provincial championship. The junior game' had Oakville's newest high school, Holy Trinity, on the verge of a fairy tale inaugural year, tak ing on Richard division champion Pearson. Holy Trinity are undefeated this year, including an 11-0 regular season and a couple of playoff wins. Pearson was the power of the Richardson division with a perfect 8-0 record. Holy Trinity defeated perennial power house Georgetown in the finals in period, and it was downhill for the Blades from that point on. After some off ice distractions, Oakville entered into the third period slightly flat and Milton capitalized -- scoring two more goals to go ahead. Oakville is currently in sixth place, only one point behind Mississauga, and 10 ahead of Streetsville. Oakville hosts Buffalo Lightning this Friday, 7:45 p.m. at Ice Sports. two straight while Pearson were taken to the limit by Oakville Trafalgar who fin ished 10-1 in Volpe behind Holy Trinity. The two teams split their series with a win, loss and tie. Oakville shook off a 1-0 deficit with three unanswered goals. Oakville's first marker was the result of some strong puck control by Anthony Scalia who then thread ed a pass to Jeffrey Peel who managed to shake free from a defender's clutch in front. In the third, after killing a penalty, Steven Guzzo slid the puck under a startled netminder following some strong dig ging by Patrick Readshaw and Tyler Stothers. Oakville put the nail in the coffin late in the game with the Rangers facing six attackers when Readshaw got his body in front of a Welland shoot-in and skated away for an empty netter.
