O Oakville Terry Fox Run kick-off event set for April 17 n April 12, 1980, Terry Fox dipped his artificial leg in the Atlantic Ocean and embarked on his cross-Canada Marathon of Hope. This year marks 35 years since Terry first united the hearts and minds of Canadians with his historic run across Canada in support of cancer research. To honour the occasion, local organizers are once again inviting businesses and residents to the fourth annual Team Up For Terry Fox kick off at Town Hall on Friday, April 17 from 7:30-9 a.m. and to learn more about how they can get involved in this year's Terry Fox Run. "We are thrilled to welcome Fred Fox as our keynote speaker this year. "In addition to being Terry's brother, Fred is also manager of supporter relations for the National Terry Fox Foundation," said Keri Schoonderwoerd, vice-chair of the Oakville event. Fred will share his personal story about growing up with Terry and some of his memories of his brother's journey during the 1980 Marathon of Hope. He is very passionate about his role at The Terry Fox Foundation and never misses the opportunity to thank the many volunteers that have made the foundation the success that it is now. Fred will be the first to say that volunteers are the ones responsible for keeping Terry's dream alive for 35 years. Last year, the Oakville Terry Fox Run raised an incredible $132,000 and broke records in terms of both attendance and dollars raised. To date, an astounding $1.9 million has been raised in Terry's name at the Oakville community run.
